NCAA CLEARINGHOUSE
If you are planning to enroll in college as a freshman and participate in Division I or II intercollegiate athletics, the Clearinghouse must, with few exceptions, determine eligibility status. Contact your high school guidance department for forms and filing procedure.
The requirements for eligibility to participate at D-I differ from those at D-II. Those participating at the D-III level are not required to register with the Clearinghouse. The guidelines of each D-III college/university determine playing eligibility.
Students normally should register after completion of their junior year in high school and only after an informed judgment has been made as to the prospect’s potential at the D-I or II level. (If done at this time the student still has his senior year in which to add missing mandatory courses.)
Waivers of the requirements are granted to students under a few specific conditions, i.e., home-schooled during all grades 9 – 12, approved diagnosed disabilities, objective evidence that demonstrates an overall academic record warrants the waiver of the normal application of the legislation.
Attendance at a secondary school outside the US for all or a portion of the 9 – 12 years requires different evaluation procedures.
Correspondence or independent study classes may not be used to meet the 16 core-course requirements.
Students enrolling in a D-I institution may not use courses taken after high school graduation to meet core-curriculum requirements except for those players with approved diagnosed disabilities.
