Just Some of the Alumni Update -( posted 3/2008)

Syracuse "Shining" Stars (Alumni Watch):
We will look at former Syracuse Stars that are now playing professionally, in college, and major junior hockey and how they are doing. We will start in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabre's Tim Connally (7-33-40), New Jersey's Brian Gionta (18-26-44), Los Angeles' Dustin Brown (28-21-49), and the Islander's Fred Meyer (2-7-9). In the AHL the Crunch has its first former Star on their roster in Tom Sestito (7-10-17). In Springfield there is Tom's brother Tim Sestito (5-8-13). Another Star Rob Schremp (15-40-55) is also on the Springfield roster. Also playing in the AHL are J. D. Forrest of Worcester (4-10-14, combined statistics including Albany).Worcester also has another former Star on their roster in T. J. Fox (10-6-16). Returning to the AHL after spending time with Florida (ECHL) is Dan Collins (4-5-9) with Rochester. Also playing in the AHL in Milwaukee is Jason Guerriero (7-19-26), and Matt Murley (14-32-46) with San Antonio after a brief stay with Phoenix (NHL). In the ECHL Matt Auffrey (20-18-38) is now the only former Star in the league following the call-up of Dan Collins. We will now look at the CHL where Wichita's Jon Horrell (2-17-1, 4.26) and Youngstown's Brad Roberts (6-5-1, 3.28) are the only Stars represented in the league. In the MAHL there are Bill Blaszcyk (11-28-39, league stats) and Emerson Mish (3-7-10, league stats) now for Jamestown following a trade from Valley Forge. Also in the MAHL on the Wooster team is Don Patrick (16-53-69). Finally playing in the SPHL there are two former Stars on the Richmond roster, R.C. Lyke (2-13-15), Mike Owens (0-8-8). Tyler Schremp (3-14-17, league stats) is now playing with Fayetteville after spending time in Richmond. Also in the league are Josh Piro (9-18-27) and Sean Walsh (1-6-7) both playing for Twin City. There are two former Stars playing over seas. Former NHL goaltender Robert Esche (no stats) is playing in Russia and forward Todd Jackson (13-26-39) is playing in the United Kingdom.

Former Stars that are playing college hockey in Division 1 are Joe Calvi (9-14-5, 2.80) for Bentley and Chris Spicer (2-5-7) for Connecticut in the Atlantic League. Playing in the Hockey East is Colby Cohen (3-12-15) for Boston University. There is one former Star in both the CCHA and WCHA. Playing in the CCHA is Joe Palmer (9-17-4, 3.02) for Ohio State and playing in the WCHA is Dan Tormey (1-3-0, 4.99) at Minnesota State. Three former Stars are on the rosters of teams in the ECAC. At Harvard is Chad Morin (1-4-5). On the roster of Quinnipiac is Dan Cullen (0-0-0, 7.84) and on the roster for St. Lawrence is Pat Kelliher (no stats). Playing Division 3 hockey in the SUNYAC are Sean O'Malley (10-8-18) at Brockport, Tim Dorak (0-6-6) at Morrisville, and Kyle Green (0-0-0) at Potsdam. Cortland has two former Stars, Ben Binga (0-3-0, 4.36) and Mike Friel (3-3-6). Jason Flanigan is on the Buffalo State roster but hasn't played in any games. Playing for Hobart in the ECAC West are Brian Cibelli (4-10-14) and Matt Wallace (14-10-24). Also appearing on rosters for teams in the ECAC West are Mike Collichio (15-9-0, 2.92) for Nuemann and Justin Bolla (no stats) for Utica. Rounding out the former Stars playing Division 3 hockey are Matt Baran (1-2-3) for Babson in the ECAC East and Ryan Howarth (7-8-15) for Connecticut College in the NESCAC.

Playing major junior hockey in the OHL Jesse Brown (13-14-27) for Kingston, Kevin Montgomery (8-31-39) at London, Conor Stokes (0-2-2) at Guelph, and Ryan Hayes (10-10-20) now playing at Plymouth after a short time at Boston College. Former Stars playing in the NAHL are Lyle Rocker (12-0-1, 2.17) for Topeka and Scott Zacharias (2-1-1, 4.63) for Fargo-Moorhead. Two former Stars have spent time on both USA National Teams (U17& U18) this season.  Jeremy Morin (32-20-52, both teams combined stats) began the season on the U17 team and was recently called up to the U18 team and Kevin McCarey (8-9-17) who has spent most of the season on the U18 team.
