Stars (B) Down Coyotes
The Stars B team travelled to Potsdam, New York this past weekend to take on the New York Coyotes. Saturday’s game was all Stars as they defeated the Coyotes 11-1. Ten different Stars players scored the goals with Zach O’Mara getting two. Six straight goals by Dan Delzoppo, James Cathers, O’Mara, Dave McKie, Marko Novosel, and Ryan Gentle gave the Stars a commanding 6-0 lead after two periods. Cory Bercume’s goal early in the third broke up the shutout attempt of Stars Goaltender Kollyn Jones who picked up his second win of the season. The Stars then scored five more goals from Zach White, Derrick Eccles, Bill Kent, O’Mara, and Corey Drozdz to close out the scoring.
Sunday’s game was a more competitive game as the Stars rallied from behind to defeat the Coyotes 5-4 in overtime. The Stars jumped out to the early lead as O’Mara and Alex Pommerville scored the only goals in the first period. The Coyotes scored three straight goals from Ryan Brown, Marek Sedlak, and Brown again to give them a 3-2 lead after two. Eric Geertz’s goal early in the third tie the game at 3-3 but four minutes later a goal from Joe Laffin gave the Coyotes a one goal lead again. James Cathers goal midway in the period tied the game at 4-4 to force the game into overtime. Geertz’s goal at 1:15 in overtime gave the Stars a hard earned 5-4 victory and a sweep of the weekend series.
The Stars B team will travel this holiday weekend down to Elmira to take on the Elmira Jr. Jackals.
