STARS: Double Sweeps

The Stars A team were coming back from their holiday break refreshed and also looking to snap a 5 game losing streak as they travelled to Philadelphia to take on the Revolution.
Saturday’s game saw the Stars take a commanding lead by scoring three goals in the first period en route to an 8-3 win to break their losing streak. Scoring for the Stars in the opening period was John Knisley, with two, and Ryan Farnan. The Revolution did make it a game after two periods as they trailed 4-3. Four unanswered goals in the third by the Stars were enough to seal the victory. Scoring the other Stars goals were Mike Zalewski, with 2, Joe Wilson, Justin Bruckel, and Dustin Oberlander.

Sunday’s game saw the Stars play two strong offensive periods in the first and third to lead them to a 7-2 win. In the first goals by Wilson, Chase Fuchs, and Zalewski saw the take a 3-0 lead after one. Goals by Fuchs, Knisley and a pair from Farnan gave the Stars a sweep over Philadelphia.

The Stars improve their record to 11-8-2-2 and are still tied for second with the Boston Jr Bruins. This weekend the team travels to Fitchburg, MA to take on the Bay State Breakers and the Green Mountain Glades.

The B team went to Northern New York (Potsdam) to take on the New York Coyotes looking to rebound from losing two games to Buffalo the previous weekend. Six different Stars scored in the first game to defeat the Coyotes 6-3. Goals were scored by newcomer Logan Morris, Devin Coon, Melvin Nichols, Zach O’Mara, Marko Novosel, and Andrew Kremer.

Sunday’s game was the Logan Morris / Jordan Demo show as the Stars beat the Coyotes 3-0. Morris was involved in all three goals, scoring the first two and assisting on the third that came from Nichols. Demo made 36 saves and recorded the team’s first shutout of the season.

Sweeping the Coyotes the Stars improve to 13-10-1, in fourth place just one point ahead of Maksymum. This weekend the B team also will travel to Fitchburg to play Salem Ice Dogs and the Capital District Selects.
