The Northern Division leading Syracuse Stars defeated the Southern Division leading Jersey Hitmen 6-1 in an Eastern Junior Hockey League game on Saturday played at the Onondaga Nation Arena. Justin Bruckel, a member of the Stars last season, who began this season with Cedar Rapids (USHL), made his homecoming game memorable by scoring a goal and adding 2 assists. Trevor Lewis also added two goals to increase his league lead in scoring with 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points. The other Syracuse goals were scored by Mike Baran, Kurt Akers, and Brendan Wharity. Chris Noonan again had an outstanding game in net allowing only one goal and making 26 saves.
On Sunday, the Jersey Hitmen rebounded from Saturday's lost to the Stars with a 4-1 win. Jersey jumped out to a quick lead as Garet Chumley scored at 1:04 in the first period. Kurt Akers scored with about 4 minutes left in the period to give the Stars a 1-1 tie after one. Following the intermission it was all the Hitmen as they scored one goal in the second period and two in the third to seal the victory.
With the weekend split, Syracuse continues to lead the Northern Division with a 14-5-4-1 record.
