Syracuse, NY- The Eastern Junior Hockey League and the Syracuse Stars are proud to announce the commitment of goaltender Anthony Cadieux to the United States Military Academy for the 2009-10 season. Cadieux is in his second year in the Eastern Junior Hockey League and joined Syracuse midway through last season after a stint with the Capital District Selects.
“Playing in the Eastern Junior Hockey League helped me a lot,” commented Cadieux. “[General Manager] Don Kirnan and [coaches] Scott Montagna and Donnie Kirnan all played large roles in my development. They, along with my mother [team manager Marion Cadieux] were always very supportive and did whatever it took to get me ready for the next level.”
Cadieux also considered rival and fellow service academy Air Force, but ultimately chose Army to “step in immediately and make an impact. Coaches Brian Riley, Rob Haberbusch, and Trevor Lange really sold me on the program.”
As Chris Noonan’s backup last season, the New Hartford, NY, native played sparingly, but made the most of his opportunities. His first start was an epic 2-0 win over the Bay State Breakers and=2 0currently sits eighth in the EJHL with a 90.7 save percentage.
“Backing up Noonan helped me a lot last year. I think everyone has to pay their dues, and the situation motivated me to work harder and listen to the coaches. I learned a lot watching Noonan play and it ultimately helped me realize my dream of playing Division One hockey.”
