Stars (A) Win a Pair
The Stars (A) team travelled to Long Beach, NY and took on the New York Apple Core for a two game series. Saturday’s game saw the Stars fall behind midway in the first period but then they scored 5 unanswered goals from Ryan Farnan, John Hero, Joe Wilson, and a pair from Rob Morton to defeat Apple Core 9-3. Scoring the other goals for the Stars were Mike Montagna, Eric Bonawitz, Matt Wilson, and another goal from Farnan.
Sunday’s game was all Stars again as they scored six straight goals to cruise to an 8-4 win. Joe Cosimo scored the first two goals and single tallies from Ryan Farnan, Josh LaRose, Matt Wilson (his first of the game), and John Hero gave the Stars a commanding 6-0 lead before the Core got on the board. The other scores for the Stars were from Adam Graff along with Wilson to close out the scoring. The Stars won the season series against Apple Core 2 games to one.
The Stars return home to the Nation Arena on a three game winning streak for a two game series this weekend against the South Shore Kings.
While Stars (B) Lose a Pair
New York Apple Core defeated the Syracuse Stars (B) team by the score of 5-1 this past Saturday at the Onondaga Nation Arena. Apple Core scored the first goal of the game, a shorthanded one, at 1:21 of the second period by Dillan Fox. They increased their lead to 2-0 about four minutes later on Zach Lokey's goal. The lone Stars tally from Devin Coon midway in the second cut Apple Core's lead to 2-1. Apple Core then scored the final three goals of the game from Steve Romano, Robby Molinaro, and Frankie Saad.
Sunday’s game was all Apple Core as they scored four unanswered goals in the first period which was enough for them to defeat the Syracuse Stars (B) team, 6-2. Goals by Steve Romano, Dillan Fox, Robby Molinaro, and Zach Lokey in the first 13 minutes of the game gave Apple Core an early 4-0 lead. Marko Novosel's goal with just under 2 minutes
remaining in the first broke up Apple Core Goaltender John Layton's bid for a shutout. Apple Core added a late 2nd period goal with just :39 remaining in the period on an unassisted goal from Kevin Kavanagh. Billy Pascalli's goal early in the third gave Apple Core a commanding 6-1 lead. The Stars final tally came from Zach O'Mara with just under 4 minutes remaining in the game.
The Stars (B) team will travel to Brewster, CT to take on Bull Dogs this weekend.
