Stars Go 1-1-1 At Valley Jr. Warriors Showcase
The Syracuse Stars went 1-1-1 this weekend at the Valley Jr. Warriors Showcase in Haverhill, Ma.
In Friday’s contest against New York Apple Core, Syracuse got up on the board first on a Kurt Akers’ goal assisted by Matt Wilson with 7:17 left in the 1st period. The score remained 1-0 through most of the game as both teams battled back and forth. With 1:19 remaining in the game Apple Core’s Sean McAllister found the back of the net to tie it up 1-1. Both teams were held scoreless in the overtime. Syracuse’s Marc Stuart stopped 24 of 25 shots as Syracuse out shot Apple Core 29-25.
On Saturday, Syracuse and the New Hampshire Monarchs prepared for a classic show down. The last time both these teams met the game was filled with outstanding goaltending ending in a 1-1 tie. In Saturday’s contest, two power play goals were the difference as New Hampshire went on to beat Syracuse 2-0.
Syracuse rebounded back on Sunday beating the CD Selects 3-2. CD opened the scoring at 14:22 of the 1st period. Syracuse answered back on a goal by Rob Morton assisted by Chris Cannizarro and Trevor Lewis. CD went ahead in the 2nd period making it 2-1 but the Stars answered again on a goal by Matias Nyberg assisted by Kurt Akers. The score remained tied at 2-2 until Syracuse’s
Kurt Akers scored with 0:23 seconds left in the game to give the Stars a 3-2 victory. Syracuse out shot the CD Selects 31-27.
