STARS (A) SWEEP AWAY THE JR. BRUINS
The Boston Jr. Bruins came to the Onondaga Nation Arena this past weekend looking to overtake the Stars and move into third place in the EJHL’s Northern Division. For them to accomplish this they would need to win both games against the Stars. One team did win both games; it was the Stars who are now in second place only 5 points out of first.
Saturday's game was a hard fought contest but two second period goals in a matter of fourteen seconds was the difference as the Stars A team beat the Jr. Bruins, 3-2. Boston took the early lead just over a minute into the game on Thane Heller's goal. The Stars then tied the game at 1-1 on a goal from Josh Larose midway in the first period. In the second period Mike Zalewski's goal followed by Adam Graff's goal fourteen seconds later gave the Stars a 3-1 lead after two. The Jr. Bruins' Kyle Smith scored the only goal of the third period off a deflection of a Stars defender to close out the scoring. Stars goaltender Anthony Cadieux had another strong game in nets making 42 saves.
Sunday's game was another well played game with the Stars scoring two first period goals; one from Joe Wilson and a shorthanded goal from Ryan Farnan en route to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Jr. Bruins. Stars goaltender Blake Dougherty and the Stars defense had another strong performance. Dougherty was denied a shutout giving up a power play goal to the Jr. Bruins’ Brad Peltz late in the second period.
With the weekend sweep over the Bruins the Stars improve their record to 9-4-2-1 good for second place in the EJHL's Northern Division. The Stars A team will play their next 9 games on the road, going to Haverhill this weekend for 3 games against Valley, Capital District, and AppleCore. The next home game for the Stars at the Onondaga Nation Arena will be on December19th against the Jersey Hitmen.
