Stars in Unfamiliar Situation

The Stars traveled down to Long Beach to face New York Applecore this past weekend in a situation that they faced only once before this season; how to respond playing a game after a loss. Previously the Stars handled it quite well going on an 11 game winning streak. This time well, the results weren’t the same. Applecore swept the weekend series over the Stars 4-3 and 5-4.

Saturday’s game started off well for the Stars as Trent Yule and Luke Kirwan scored in the first 5 minutes of the game to give the Stars a 2-0 lead. Applecore cut the Stars lead in half midway in the period on a goal from Mark Devaughn. Less than a minute later the Stars regained their two goal advantage as Alex Brink hit the back of the net. The first period ended with the Stars up 3-1. Unfortunately for the Stars their offense shut down the rest of the game as Applecore defeated the Stars 4-3.

Looking to rebound on Sunday the Stars got off to slow start as they fell behind 2-0 after the first period. The 2nd period didn’t start any better as Applecore increased their lead to 3-0. The Stars finally got on the scoreboard as Logan Warren buried one at the 7:45 mark. Applecore’s Phil Kreuzer scored two minutes later to give them a 4-1 lead going into the 2nd intermission. The Stars offense finally awoke midway in the third as Jeremy Marginsky scored. Joe Bochichio scored what proved to be the game winner for Applecore at 11:22 to give them a commanding 5-2 lead. The Stars started to comeback with a goal from Erik Kurz at 14:03. The comeback fell a goal short as Trent Yule scored with just one second left to give Applecore the 5-4 win.

With the loss weekend in Long Beach, the Stars are now in the midst of a three game losing streak. The Stars travel this weekend to the Philadelphia area to take on the Revolution. Earlier this season the Stars swept the two games against them in Cicero by scores of 7-5 and 5-2.
