The Stars (EJHL) team had a successful weekend at home as they swept the two games against the Boston Jr. Shamrocks. Winning the two games enabled the Stars to climb into first place in the Eastern League’s Northern Division.
In Saturday’s game the Stars scored 4 unanswered goals in the first period en route to a 10-2 victory over the Boston Jr. Shamrocks. Leading the way for the Stars with two goals apiece were Brian Roller and Joe Cosimo. Scoring the other goals were Matt Wilson, John Hero, Eric Bonawitz, Rob Morton, Chris Cannizzaro, and Ryan Farnan. Joe Dawson started in goal for the Stars and picked up his 4th win of the season.
Sunday’s game was slightly different as the Stars had to rally from a two goal deficit to defeat the Boston Jr. Shamrocks, 8-4. Boston jumped out to a two goal lead in the first period on goals from Chris Sweeney and Tim MacDonald to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. The Stars started their comeback early in the second on Rob Morton's goal at 2:17. Syracuse then tied the game at 2-2 a minute later on Joe Wilson's goal. The Shamrocks then regained the lead on a goal from Reed Hersey. Syracuse stormed back to tie the game again on another goal from Joe Wilson. Less than 15 seconds later the Shamrocks took their final lead of the game on a Ryan Kelly goal as the second period ended with the Shamrocks ahead 4-3. In the third period it was all Stars as they scored 5 unanswered goals from Matt Wilson, Rob Morton's, second of the game, Mike Montagna, Adam Graff, and Ryan Farnan to give the Stars the come from behind victory. Goaltender Eric Sorenson picked up his first win of the season in relief of starting goaltender Anthony Cadieux. The Stars swept the season series against the Shamrocks winning all four games.
This weekend the Stars (EJHL) team continues it homestand as they host the 3rd place New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs.
The Stars (EmJHL) team had this past weekend off but will be back into Empire League play this weekend as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Jr. Penguins.
