Sttars (A) Coming Home in 2nd Place

The Stars are looking forward to some home cooking after playing 8 out of their first 10 games on the road. The Stars had a very successful series in Bay State taking three points out of four from the Breakers. In the game between these teams the Stars took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Josh Larose early in the second period. The Breakers tied the game midway in the period on Brian Elser’s goal. Bay State took the lead three minutes after Elser’s goal on Colin South’s goal.  The Stars then tied the game 2-2 on another goal from Larose with just 1:09 remaining to force the game into overtime. Ryan McGarth scored the game winner with just :32 remaining in overtime to give the Breakers the 3-2 win. The Stars did manage to pick up one point in the standings with the overtime loss.

In the second game of the series the game started with Bay State taking an early lead just over a minute into the game on a goal from McGarth. Justin Bruckel tied the game 1-1 on his goal two minutes later. The Breakers then built a two goal lead on two goals from Woody Woodworth. The Stars then tallied the final four goals of the game, Brant Sherwood, Joe Wilson, Brendon Rothfuss, and Josh Larose to down the Breakers 5-3.

Following the Bay State series the Stars continued on the road travelling to New Hampshire to participate in the Junior Monarchs Showcase. Green Mountain was the opening opponent for the Stars. Pat George’s goal was the only tally in the first half. The Stars jumped out to a 2-1 lead by the middle of the second half on goals from Ryan Farnan and Brendon Rothfuss. The Glades then tied the game with 10 minutes remaining on Sebastian Nilsson’s goal. Connor Anthoine’s goal with just over seven minutes remaining proved to be the game winner as the Glades defeated the Stars 3-2.

The Stars second game of the showcase had them facing off against the Valley Junior Warriors. Rothfuss got the Stars on the scoreboard early with a tally just twenty-two seconds into the game. Three minutes later the Stars increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Matt Deluca. The game stayed at 2-0 until the Warrior’s Regin MacLean scored with just seven seconds remaining in the half. The second half saw strong goaltending on both sides with Blake Dougherty for the Stars and Greg Hussey for the Warriors. With the clock winding down and still trailing 2-1 the Warriors decided to pull Hussey for the added attacker with over a minute remaining. This move failed as the Stars scored two empty net goals from Justin Bruckel and Joe Wilson in the final minute to come away with a 4-1 victory.

The Stars final game at the Monarchs Showcase had them facing off against the Capital District Selects. Joe Wilson opened the scoring for the Stars with his first of two goals  just over a minute into the game. This would be the Stars only lead of the game as the Selects scored the next five goals to take commanding lead to an 8-3 victory. Scoring the other goal for the Stars was Justin Bruckel.

The Stars return home this weekend to take on the New York AppleCore at the Nation Arena.
