Stars (A) Pick Up 3 Points
The Stars traveled to Bridgewater, MA this past weekend to take on the Bandits and picked up 3 points on the road trip.
Saturday’s game was all Stars as they defeated the Bandits, 8-3. Syracuse scored early (:56) and late (18:37) in the first period on two goals from Ryan Farnan to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Johnny Van Siclen’s goal at 4:49 in the 2nd period cut the Stars lead to 2-1. Midway in the period the Stars scored two goals, Josh LaRose and Rob Morton, in a matter of 1:33 to build the lead to 4-1. Chris Rooney’s goal at 11:51 made the score 4-2. Towards the end of the period the two teams traded goals; the Stars goal coming from Joe Wilson to make it 5-3 after two. The third period belonged to the Stars as they scored three goals in the period; one from Matt Wilson and two goals from John Hero.
Sunday’s game was a hard fought battle as the Stars fell to the Bandits by the score of 2-1 in overtime. The two teams were scoreless after one period but then mid-way in the 2nd period Eric Kowalski beat the Stars goalie Anthony Cadieux to give the Bandits a 1-0 lead. Mike Montagna’s goal with just :11 remaining in the period tied the game for the Stars at 1-1. A scoreless third period forced the game into overtime. In overtime the Bandits John Heffernan beat Cadieux at :53 to give the Bandits the 2-1 win. With the overtime loss and the win on Saturday the Stars picked up 3 points and improved their record to 5-3-2-1 and are just two points behind the division leading New Hampshire Monarchs.
The Stars continue their road trip this weekend as the travel to Tyngsboro, MA to take on the New England Huskies on Saturday and Sunday.
Stars (B) Drop Two
This past weekend the Stars traveled to New Hampshire for the Monarchs Showcase and played the host Monarchs and the Salem Ice Dogs. In their game against New Hampshire on Sunday the Monarchs scored three first period goals to defeat the Stars, 4-1. Scoring the lone Stars goal was Zach O’Mara. Monday’s game against the Ice Dogs was no different as Salem won 6-2. The Stars fell behind early but did tie the game 1-1 on a goal from Devin Coon at 5:22 of the first period. The second period then saw the young Stars team fall completely apart as they gave up 4 straight goals as Salem built up a commanding 5-1 lead. Marko Novosel scored the final Stars goal. Stars fall to 1-9-0-1 and are in 4th place in the Empire’s Western Division. The Stars return home this weekend to play two non-league games against the Jersey Hitmen U19 Development team.
