Stars (A) Sweep Out The Bandits
The Stars (A) team scored the final three goals in Saturday’s game to defeat the Bridgewater Bandits 5-3 in the team’s home opener. Justin Bruckel got the Stars on the board first with a power play goal at 3:17 of the first period. Bridgewater's Chad Goodwin tied the game three minutes later as the first period ended in a 1-1 tie. Joe Wilson's power play goal at the 3:36 mark of the second period gave the Stars the lead again, 2-1. The Bandits then scored two goals within four minutes first from Kyle Richards, a power play goal, and Goodwin to give the Bandits a 3-2 lead. The Stars then scored the tying goal from Bruckel with just two minutes remaining in the second as the period ended 3-3. The third period was all Stars as they scored the only goals of the period from Brendon Rothfuss and an empty net goal from Wilson to give the Stars the 5-3 win. Stars goaltender Eric Sorenson picked up his second consecutive win making 34 saves.
Ryan Farnan's hat trick in Sunday’s game paved the Stars (A) team to a 7-4 win over the Bridgewater Bandits and the sweep of the two game series. The Stars scored the only goal of the first period on a power play goal from Joe Wilson. Bridgewater tied the score 1-1 early in the second period from Ryan Edwards. Syracuse regained the lead on a power play goal from Josh Larose which deflected off the upper body of the Bandits goaltender Craig Ryan. Bridgewater goals from John Mousso and Kevin Lampron closed out the second period with the Bandits ahead 3-2. The third period belonged to Ryan Farnan. He scored the first two goals of the period, the first on a power play, to give the Stars a 4-3 lead. JP Witkop's goal mid-way in the period gave the Stars a 5-3 lead. A goal from the Bandits Charles Stellabotte cut the Stars lead to goal. With about three minutes left in the game the Bandits were not only losing the game they began to lose their composure. The final three minutes of the game the Stars were on the power play, most of that time on a 5-3 advantage. Farnan then picked up his third goal of the game with 2:37 left and Matt DeLuca scored with 59 seconds remaining to give the Stars the 7-4 win. Goaltender Blake Dougherty picked up his first win of the season making 32 saves. The Stars won the regular season series over the Bandits, 2-1. Syracuse improved their record to 3-1-1 and take a three game winning streak into next weekend's games at Baystate.
Stars (B) Break Even On Road
The Stars (B) team headed down state to Brewster to take on the Bulldogs looking to extend their two game winning streak. Russian born defenseman Nikita Mokin’s hat trick was all that the Stars needed to defeat the Bulldogs 5-1. Scoring the other goals for the Stars were Derrick Eccles and Luke Alletzhauser.
Heading into Sunday’s game the Stars were hoping to sweep the Bulldogs and extend their winning streak to four games. Valentin Milyukov’s goal early in the second period gave the Stars a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs rebounded before the period ended on goals from Nick Belger and Tom Clarke to take a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Brewster increased their lead to 3-1 with a goal from Dan Griffiths at 7:19. Connor Bertrand score a goal just five seconds later to put the Stars back into the game trailing 3-2. Brewster then scored about a minute later from Pete Quigley to seal the Bulldogs 4-2 win and snapped the Stars three game winning streak.
The Stars head to Rochester on Wednesday with a 3-3 record to take on the Maksymum Selects.
