Stars (A) Split Opening Home Series
The New England/Springfield Falcons rallied from a 2 goal deficit to defeat the Syracuse Stars A team, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Onondaga Nation Arena. The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period on goals by Joe Wilson and a power play goal by his brother, Matt. Springfield started their comeback mid-way in the second period on a goal from Jason Adams. The Falcons tied the game at 2-2 with just two seconds remaining in the period on a goal from Tim McGarry. The third period belonged to the Falcons who scored three goals in the period, the third being an empty net goal to seal away the victory.
The Syracuse Stars A team rebounded from Saturday’s lost to defeat the New England/Springfield Falcons 5-3 on Sunday. Once again the Stars jumped out with two goals in the first period from Brian Roller and Adam Graff entering the first intermission. The Stars increased their lead early in the second on a goal from Colin Cook at 3:07. The Falcons started to chip into the Stars lead on Nick Pappas goal at 8:03 of the period. New England's Phil Bronner cut the Stars lead to 3-2 at 16:07. The Stars Rob Morton built the lead back to a two goal lead with a goal at 17:13. Both teams exchanged goals in the third with the Stars goal coming on an empty net goal from Josh Larose.
With the weekend split with the Falcons the Stars have a 3-2-1-0 record. The Stars travel this weekend to New Hampshire to participate in the Monarchs Tourney and play the Green Mountain Glades, the Capital District Selects, and the Valley Warriors.
Stars (B) Rough Weekend in Jersey
The Syracuse Stars B team traveled this past weekend to Randolph, New Jersey to take on the Jersey Wildcats for a pair of Empire League games. In the Saturday game the Wildcats built up a 6-0 lead after two periods in route to a 6-2 victory over the Stars. Scoring the third period goals for the Stars were Jared Lehman and Billy Kent.
Alex Betts’ goal at :23 in overtime lifted the Wildcats past the Stars, 5-4 on Sunday. This game was a more competitive game for the Stars as they took the early lead on a Billy Kent goal at 13:46 of the first period. About 3 minutes later the Wildcats tied the game on a goal from Tom Tomensky. The Stars regained the lead again with just nine seconds left in the first on a power play goal from Mason Richardson. The Stars then built up a two goal lead early in the second period as Nathan Hughes scored an unassisted power play goal at 1:11. Jersey came storming back in the next three and a half minutes to tie the game at 3-3. Jersey goals were from Mike Postorino and a power play goal by Andrew Canitano. James Cathers’ power play goal mid-way in the third gave the Stars a 4-3and it appeared that the Stars were going to get a win but with just six seconds left the Wildcats Nick Lieback shot beat the Stars goaltender Mike Starversky forcing the game into overtime.
The Stars (1-5-0-1) finally come home for their home opener this weekend for a two game series against the Tri-State Selects.
