Stars Edge Bridgewater With 2 Overtime Wins
Trevor Lewis' power play goal at 2:14 in overtime sparked the Syracuse Stars to a 3-2 victory over the Bridgewater Bandits in the first of a two-game series this weekend. Syracuse got on the scoreboard first on a short handed goal from Kurt Akers at 5:22 of the second period. Bridgewater closed out the period with a goal from Mike Penkrot. The Stars took a 2-1 lead early in the third period as Akers added his second goal of the game assisted by Matt Wilson. Stars Goaltender Chris Noonan came up with save after save until Bridgewater’s Pat Ryan scored at 14:38 to force the game into overtime.
On Sunday the Stars had that same old feeling as they defeated the Bridgewater Bandits for the second straight day in overtime, 6-5. Rob Morton scored at the :10 mark in overtime to give the Stars a sweep of the two game series against the Bandits. The Bandits scored first on a goal from Brian Yanovitch. The Stars rebounded and scored three straight goals from Chris Cannizzaro, Doug Marshall and Trevor Lewis to build a 3-1 lead. Bridgewater closed out the first period with goals from Mark Silverman and Yanovitch as the teams entered the intermission tied 3-3. The second period had the Stars build a 5-4 lead after two periods with Lewis and Dan Ford scoring for the Stars. The only goal of the third period was early in the period from the Bandit's James Teller to force the game into overtime.
The Stars are undefeated and continue to lead the Eastern Junior League's Northern Division with a record of 6-0-1-0. The Stars continue their home stand next weekend as they host the New England Huskies.
