The Syracuse Stars had both their Eastern League (A) team and Empire League (B) represented in the Boston Jr. Bruins Shootout last weekend.
The Stars A team did quite well considering that they played both of their games on Saturday in the matter of 8 hours. In the first game they played the hosts, the Jr. Bruins and lost 3-2. Boston built up a two goal lead scoring both of their goals late in the first half but a goal from Matt Wilson with just :29 left cut the deficit to 2-1 going into the intermission. The Stars then tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from Josh Larose at the :39 mark of the second half. The Bruins then got the game winning goal from Jeff Ryan at 8:56.
In the Stars second game of the day they battled the Bridgewater Bandits to a 3-3 tie. The Stars took an early lead with a goal from Rob Morton at 4:20. The Bandits then scored two goals in the final 5 minutes of the first half to take a 2-1 lead into the break. Joe Wilson’s goal at the :38 mark tied the game at 2-2. The Bandits then took the lead again with a goal from Dylan Barbieri at 7:46. Joe Wilson’s second goal of the game at 10:59 gave the Stars the hard earned tie.
The Stars B team began their Shootout competition on Friday against the New England/Springfield Falcons. Each team exchanged goals in the first half with the Stars goal coming from Nathan Hughes. The Falcons then took the lead again early (:28) in the second half but Hughes’ second goal at 1:48 tied the game at 2-2. The Falcons then scored two goals in the matter of 34 seconds midway in the half to put the game out of reach to earn a 5-2 victory.
On Saturday the Stars B team took on the Bay State Breakers. Each team battled hard but a goal from Charles McGinnis at 11:23 in the second half gave the Breakers a 1-0 win. With the lost the Stars fall to a 1-4-0 record with three of the defeats by a shutout.
