Results from the Boston Jr. Bruins Shootout

The Syracuse Stars had both their Eastern League (A) team and Empire League (B) represented in the Boston Jr. Bruins Shootout last weekend.

The Stars A team did quite well considering that they played both of their games on Saturday in the matter of 8 hours. In the first game they played the hosts, the Jr. Bruins and lost 3-2. Boston built up a two goal lead scoring both of their goals late in the first half but a goal from Matt Wilson with just :29 left cut the deficit to 2-1 going into the intermission. The Stars then tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from Josh Larose at the :39 mark of the second half. The Bruins then got the game winning goal from Jeff Ryan at 8:56.

In the Stars second game of the day they battled the Bridgewater Bandits to a 3-3 tie. The Stars took an early lead with a goal from Rob Morton at 4:20. The Bandits then scored two goals in the final 5 minutes of the first half to take a 2-1 lead into the break. Joe Wilson’s goal at the :38 mark tied the game at 2-2.  The Bandits then took the lead again with a goal from Dylan Barbieri at 7:46. Joe Wilson’s second goal of the game at 10:59 gave the Stars the hard earned tie.

The Stars B team began their Shootout competition on Friday against the New England/Springfield Falcons. Each team exchanged goals in the first half with the Stars goal coming from Nathan Hughes. The Falcons then took the lead again early (:28) in the second half but Hughes’ second goal at 1:48 tied the game at 2-2. The Falcons then scored two goals in the matter of 34 seconds midway in the half to put the game out of reach to earn a 5-2 victory.

On Saturday the Stars B team took on the Bay State Breakers. Each team battled hard but a goal from Charles McGinnis at 11:23 in the second half gave the Breakers a 1-0 win. With the lost the Stars fall to a 1-4-0 record with three of the defeats by a shutout.
