Stars Pick Up 5 Points At
The Junior Bruins Shootout
Syracuse continued their fast start, going 2-0-1 at the Junior Bruins Shootout picking up 5 out of 6 points. The Stars beat Valley 3-0, tied the Jr. Bruins 1-1, and outlasted Bridgewater 3-2 in a thrilling overtime contest.
In the first game of the Junior Bruins Shootout, Stars’ Goaltender Marc Stuart recorded his first shutout of the season as Syracuse beat the Valley Jr. Warriors
3-0. Syracuse opened the scoring 3:48 into the 2nd period on a power play goal by Rob Morton, assisted by Dan Ford and Trevor Lewis. Just 28 seconds later, Syracuse answered again as Jake Dellavalle drove hard to the net with the puck and Brendan Wharity picked up the loose rebound scoring his first goal of the season. Dellavalle and Kyle Schultz assisted on the goal. The third Syracuse goal came on a blast from the top of the face off circle by Stars’ Captain Trevor Lewis beating Valley’s Tinkham with 4:00 left in the game. Cannizarro and Morton assisted on the goal. The Stars out shot Valley 39-15.
In the 2nd game of the Shootout, Syracuse battled to 1-1 tie against the Boston Junior Bruins. The first half of the game was scoreless until the Bruins’ Edwin Shea scored a power play goal at 7:15 in the 2nd period to send the Bruins up 1-0. Syracuse battled back and answered with a power play goal of their own from Chris Cannizarro at 12:41 of the second period. Cannizarro’s goal was assisted by Dan Ford. The hard fought game ended up 1-1 at the end of regulation sending the game into overtime. Both teams battled hard through the five minute scoreless overtime ending in a 1-1 contest. Syracuse goaltender Chris Noonan was outstanding between the pipes stopping 27 of 28 shots.
Syracuse capped off a great weekend beating Bridgewater 3-2 in a thrilling overtime contest. The game was scoreless for the first half until Stars’ Chris Cannizarro scored on a power play goal at 3:48 in the 2nd period. The power play goal was assisted by Trevor Lewis and Bryan German. Syracuse answered again 2:48 seconds later to go up 2-0 on another Cannizarro goal assisted by Lewis and Rob Morton. Yet Bridgewater battled back with a Jake Polas goal with 3:28 left in the game to make it 2-1. Both teams battled hard the last three minutes of the game and with under a minute left Bridgewater pulled their goaltender and pressured hard in the Syracuse zone. With 21 seconds left Bridgewater’s Eric Kowalski found the back of the net tying the game at 2-2. With the 2nd game in two days going into overtime, Syracuse had to reach down deep to regain momentum and with 2:06 left in overtime, last weeks Rookie of the Week Matt Wilson scored on a back hand shot as he drove to the net to give Syracuse the 3-2 overtime win. Syracuse goaltender Marc Stuart was outstanding stopping 32 of 34 shots. Syracuse out shot Bridgewater 40-34.
