Syracuse Stars A and B Teams
Open Up the 2008-09 Season On The Road

The Stars A (Eastern League) team began the 2008-09 season on a positive note.  Syracuse swept the two game series in Boston against the Shamrocks, 8-1 and 5-3.

In Saturday’s game the Stars scored the game’s first eight goals. Leading the Stars were Joe Wilson and Rob Morton each with a pair of goals. The other goals were by Ryan Farnan, Ken Nosky, Matt Wilson, and John Hero. Goaltender Joe Dawson picked up the victory making 12 saves and giving up only one goal late in the game to former Syracuse Star Kyle Schultz.

Sunday’s game again had the Stars providing the offensive power as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead early into the second period. The goal scorers were Matt Wilson, Mike Montagna and Josh LaRose, his first of two for the game. The Shamrocks Robert Sorrenti scored late in the second period to cut the lead to 3-1. Each team scored a pair of goals in the third period. Stars goals were from Rob Morton and LaRose's second of the game. Kyle Schultz scored both third period goals for the Shamrocks to make the final score of 5-3 in favor of the Stars. Anthony Cadieux earned the victory making 25 saves.

The Stars travel again to Boston this weekend to participate in the Jr. Bruins Shootout tournament. They play two games on Saturday against the host Bruins and later in the evening against the Bridgewater Bandits.

The Stars B (Empire League) team opened their 2008-09 season in Vermont in their Fall Classic Showcase. Friday’s game was against the Capital District Selects. The Stars rallied in the second half with two goals to defeat the Selects, 2-1. Nathan Hughes and Zach White scored the Stars goals. Goaltender Kollyn Jones earned his first win making 35 saves.

Boston Jr. Bruins provided the opposition for the Stars on Saturday. Jr. Bruins goaltender Tyler Holske made 14 saves which helped the Bruins to defeat the Stars, 3-0.

Sunday the final day of the tourney had the Stars playing the South Shore Kings. The Stars had 28 shots on goal but the Kings Goaltender Greg Homer didn’t allow any of the shots to get by him. The Stars were again shutout as the Kings won, 2-0.

This weekend the Stars B team will also be in Boston taking part in the Jr. Bruins Shootout. The B team will be playing the New England (Springfield) Falcons on Friday and the Bay State Breakers on Saturday.
