Stars (B) Close Out Their Season
The Stars (B) season came to a quick end as they were eliminated in two games during the Empire League’s double elimination tournament. New York Applecore was the team’s first opponent on Friday night. The Stars jumped out to an early lead on a goal from Bill Kent at 2:52 in the first period. New York then scored 4 unanswered goals, two from Zach Lokey, Matt Kavanagh, and Rob Amrhein to put the game out of reach. Christian Powell scored the other goal for the Stars as they lost to New York, 5-2. Going into Saturday’s game the Stars were in a must win situation against the Brewster Bulldogs or face elimination. Once again the Stars took the early lead on a goal from Bill Kent just twenty-three seconds into the game. The Bulldogs tied the game about a minute later on a goal from Dan Griffiths. Chris Francaviglia scored the game winning goal with just 8:24 remaining in the contest to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 victory over the Stars. With their second loss the Stars were eliminated from the playoff tournament and saw their 2008-09 season come to an end.
