Syracuse Stars Joe Wilson Commits to Colgate
Syracuse Stars EJHL forward Joe Wilson has committed to Colgate University for 2011.
In his rookie campaign in the EJHL Joe had a tremendous season with 28 goals and 32 assists for 60 points. He netted 11 PPG along with 5 game winners. Stars coach Scott Montagna noted that Joe had one of the best rookie campaigns ever in the EJHL. "Being that Joe is a 92 birth year, to come in like he did and be one of the top goal scorers and top scorers in the league was a great achievement. Not many 16 year old players can come into this league and compete, let alone be in the top 10 in scoring. Joe was one of our go to guys all season and is the type of player that competes every single day in practice and in games. The Colgate staff was very high on Joe and they should be as he will definitely be an impact player at the Division 1 level. I have been lucky enough to coach Joe for a really long time and I am just thrilled for him. He made a really great choice."
Joe is a junior at Liverpool High School and carries an "A" average in school. His grades plus his hockey skills had him getting offers from many schools but he decided to stay close to home and join the Raiders. He is absolutely thrilled with his choice. In talking to Coach Montagna he said there were very few times that he has seen Joe be that excited as he is pretty low key. "The excitement in Joe's voice in telling me he had made his decision was awesome. Joe has really earned this with all the hard work he has put in."
Joe will join his brother Matt (Clarkson 09) in the ECAC and it should make for some very interesting evenings in the Wilson home. Joe is the son of Steve and Karen Wilson of Liverpool, NY.
