Stars (B) and Jr. Penguins Split

The Stars B team scored single tallies in each period to defeat the Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins, 3-1 in Saturday’s game. Mason Richardson scored with 8:35 left in the first period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Bill Kent scored the game winner with just 15 seconds remaining in the second to give them a 2-0 lead. Marko Novosel scored an insurance goal early in the third to give them a commanding 3-0 lead. The Jr. Penguins' Chaten Boscha scored a power play goal with just nine seconds remaining in the game and prevented the Stars Kollyn Jones of picking up his first shutout of the season.

The Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins rallied from a three goal deficit to edge the Stars B team 4-3 in overtime on Sunday. Andrew Kremer got the Stars on the board early in the first to give them a 1-0 lead. Derrick Eccles increased the lead as the first period ended with the Stars up 2-0. Devin Coon's unassisted goal early in the second gave the Stars a 3-0 lead. The Jr. Penguins started their comeback about two minutes after Coon's goal with a power play goal from Todd Thomas. Starting the third period the Stars were still up 3-1 but Logan Pfeffer's goal in the first three minutes of the period cut the deficit to 3-2. Stars goaltender Mike Starversky came up with many big saves to keep the Stars ahead. Aaron Hahme beat Starversky on the short side with just 1:50 remaining to force the game into overtime. Thomas' second goal of the game at 1:10 in the extra session gave the Jr. Penguins the victory and a split for the weekend series.

The Stars travel to Buffalo this weekend in a series that could determine positioning for the playoffs.

Stars (A) Win 3 On The Road

The Stars A team traveled to Foxboro, MA to participate in the South Shore Tournament and played 5 games in three days. Friday afternoon’s game did not fare well for the Stars as they fell to the host Kings, 3-1. Scoring the only goal for the Stars was Rob Morton who increased his league leading in goals scored to 33. The Stars did rebound in the nightcap as they defeated the Boston Jr. Bruins, 3-1. Rob Morton again got the Stars on the board first with a goal in the first minute of the game. Joe Pendenza tied the score for the Jr. Bruins about four minutes later. Chris Cannizzaro then scored the game winner just before the first half ended. The only scoring in the second half was an empty net goal by the Stars’ Sam Ward with just :46 remaining in the contest.

In their only game on Saturday the Stars were able to overcome a hat trick by Springfield’s Dustin Ryder to defeat the Falcons 4-3. Leading the way for the Stars were Joe Wilson (two goals), Chris Cannizzaro and Rob Morton.

Sunday’s early game was against the Jersey Hitmen who are one of the top teams in the league. Jersey dominated the game as they shutout the Stars 6-0. This was the second time this season that the Hitmen were able to shutout the Stars. Sunday’s later game the Stars edged the Bay State Breakers 5-4. Matt Wilson led the Stars with his first hat trick of the season. Brian Roller and Dillon Black tallied the other two goals.

The Stars (A) return home this weekend to conclude their regular season against the Valley Jr. Warriors.
