Stars' Montagna Commits to the University of Vermont
Syracuse Stars’ forward Mike Montagna has committed to the University of Vermont for the fall of 2010.
Montagna, who was called up to the Stars’ Junior ‘A’ team in early December after putting up 20 goals, 38 assists for 58 points in 27 games at the Junior ‘B’ level, was excited about making his decision. “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to go to the University of Vermont and become a part of Vermont’s great tradition. The chance to play in the Hockey East is a goal I worked so hard to reach and I want to thank the Star’s program for affording me the opportunity to develop and grow as a hockey player,” said Montagna.
“Mike is an impressive young man who has an extremely bright future a head of him,” said head coach Chris Firriolo. “What’s so impressive about Mike’s game is his poise and patience with the puck and how well he creates time and space for himself and the players around him. These skills are hard to teach and as a 92’ you can only imagine the upside Mike has and what kind of player he’ll become by the time he’s ready for college. I think that’s exactly what the University of Vermont sees in Mike and there’s no doubt he’ll continue to enrich the great tradition at Vermont.”
Mike is the son of Scott and Kelly Montagna of Fulton, NY.
