Streaking Stars (B) Continue To Rise

The Stars B team entered the weekend against the New York (Potsdam) Coyotes as one of the Empire League’s hottest teams in the last 8 weeks. With a record of 10-3 and with a three game winning streak the Stars hoped to improve their record against the Coyotes.

Saturday’s game saw James Cathers and Mason Richardson each scored a pair of goals to lead the Stars to a 6-1 victory over the Coyotes. Scoring the other goals for the Stars were Jared Lehman and Devin Coon. Xavier Patterson's goal with just under 4:00 remaining in the game broke up the shutout bid for the Stars goaltender Kollyn Jones.

On Sunday the Stars scored 8 first period goals and then cruised to an 18-2 victory over the Coyotes. New York jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Ryan Bercume in the first minute of the game. The Stars then scored 7 straight goals to take a 7-1 lead before the Coyotes Carson Benggio snuck one in behind goalie Jordan Demo. After that it was all Stars as they scored the next 11 goals. Leading the scoring parade for the Stars was Corey Drozdz with 4, Ryan Gentle, Eric Geertz, Jared Lehman, and Andrew Kremer with 2 each and with one each Zach O'Mara, Mason Richardson, Dan Delzoppo, Marko Novosel, Derrick Eccles, and Christian Powell.

With the sweep over the Coyotes the Stars improve their record to 14-18-1-1 and are in the midst of a 5 game winning streak. They have also moved into third place in the Western Division two points ahead of the Buffalo Stars.

The Stars will play two non-league home games this weekend against the Northwood Prep Midget team.

Stars (A) Split

The Stars A team traveled to New Jersey this past weekend to take on the Hitmen. In Saturday’s game the Stars edged the Hitmen 2-1. The line of Matt Wilson, Chris Cannizzaro, and Rob Morton were involved in both goals. Wilson and Morton scored the goals and also picked up an assist each. Recording the other assists was Cannizzaro. Goaltender Anthony Cadieux played a strong game between the pipes making 40 saves.

The Hitmen rebounded on Sunday and blanked the Stars 7-0. This was the second time this season that they have been shutout. Syracuse ended the month of January with a split having won two games, losing two games, along with three ties.

The Stars next game will be on Sunday against the Capital District Selects.
