Stars Split With Valley Jr. Warriors
Syracuse split with the Valley Jr. Warriors this past weekend in Haverhill, MA winning Saturday’s game 4-3 and losing Sunday 5-2.
In Syracuse’s 4-3 win, the Stars went up 3-1 in the first period on goals from Trevor Lewis, Rob Morton and Kurt Akers. Valley chipped away at the lead scoring the lone goal of the second period and the first goal of the third period to even the score at 3-3. As the two teams battled the rest of the way, Syracuse’s Trevor Lewis scored his second goal of the game late in the third period to give Syracuse the 4-3 victory. Syracuse’s Chris Noonan stopped 28 of 31 shots.
In Sunday’s contest, Valley opened the scoring in the first period in a game that went scoreless into the third period before Valley scored again to make it 2-0. Syracuse battled back on a short-handed goal by Trevor Lewis before Valley scored again to make 3-1. Syracuse answered back on a powerplay goal by Kurt Akers to make it 3-2. With a minute remaining Syracuse pulled their goalie in an effort to tie it up but Valley responded with an empty net goal to make it 4-2. Moments later Valley scored again to finish with a 5-2 win.
Syracuse remains at the top of the Northern Division with a 21-7-4-1 record.
