Stars Continue to Shine
The Syracuse Stars returned to action following a 4 week holiday break and didn't lose any momentum as they downed the Potomac Patriots, 9-2. The game started off sluggish as the Stars scored the only goal in the opening stanza. Syracuse put the game out of reach tallying 5 goals in the second to take a 6-1 lead into the second intermission and then cruised to the 9-2 victory.
Leading the way for the Stars were Alex Fukes and Jeremy Marginsky who each picked up a pair of goals. Also scoring for the Stars were Anthony Angello, Dan Briggs, Casie Garrison, Alex Tuch, and Erik Kurz. Nate Skidmore made 25 saves en route to his 8th win for the season.
In Sunday’s game the Stars were shining bright with an early (7:00 AM) morning face-off as they defeated the Potomac Patriots again, this time by a 13-5 margin. Casie Garrison got the Stars off to an early lead just 8 seconds into the contest. Alex Tuch, Anthony Angello, and Jeremy Marginsky also hit the back of the net which forced Patriot goaltender Alec Yutzler to an early exit after allowing four goals on 5 shots.
The Stars offense had 10 players accumulating the 13 goals with Tuch, Angello, and Marginsky picking up 2 apiece and single tallies by Garrison, Luke Kirwan, Dan Briggs, Ben Engelbrekt, Josh Sova, Steve Staversky, and Ryan Perry netting the others.
With the weekend sweep of the Patriots and already earning a playoff spot; the first place Stars improved their record to 25-7-0.
The Stars last 8 regular season games will be on the road as they travel to Jersey this weekend to take on the Wildcats. The Stars concluded their home portion of the schedule with a 12-2 record.
