Stars Win Two At South Shore
Syracuse, who will be on the road the entire month of January, went into South Shore this past weekend and beat a very gritty Kings’ team 5-4 and 5-3.
On Saturday, South Shore went ahead 3-1 early on but saw Syracuse battle back with 3 straight goals, two from Kurt Akers and one from Trevor Lewis, his second of the game, to go ahead 4-3. Yet a tenacious South Shore team battled back to tie it up at 4-4 before Syracuse’s Chris Cannizarro scored the game winner to put Syracuse ahead for good 5-4. Chris Noonan was outstanding in net coming up with key saves down the stretch to hold off South Shore.
On Sunday Syracuse went up 2-0 early on goals by Dan Ford and Kurt Akers. South Shore chipped away to make it 2-1 but Syracuse responded again with two more goals from Chris Cannizarro and Kurt Akers to go up 4-1. South Shore chipped away to make it 4-2 before Syracuse’s Brendan Wharity scored to make it 5-2. South Shore netted one more but Syracuse goaltender Chris Noonan was outstanding again down the stretch to secure a Syracuse 5-3 win.
The two wins keep Syracuse at the top of the Northern Division with a 20-6-4-1 record.
