Stars (B) Split Against Bulldogs


The Syracuse Stars B team continues their hot streak as they defeated the Brewster Bulldogs 6-4 on Saturday. Brewster jumped out to an early lead a minute into the game on a goal from Chris Francaviglia. Syracuse then tied the game four minutes later on Dave McKie's goal. James Cather's first goal of the game midway in the period gave the Stars a 2-1 lead. Just before the period ended Tim Condon tied the game at 2-2 entering the first intermission. The Stars then put the game out of reach by scoring three goals in the second period. Scoring the goals were Bill Kent on a power play, a shorthanded goal from Jared Lehman and a goal from Zach O'Mara giving the Stars a 5-2 lead after two. A Brewster power play goal from Ryan Cotcamp cut the lead to 5-3. Cathers power play goal, his second of the game, with just under 5 minutes remaining increased the Stars lead back to three. Cotcamp scored the last Bulldogs goal with just 10 seconds remaining to close out the scoring. With the victory the Stars extended their winning streak to 5 games.

On Sunday the Brewster Bulldogs rallied from a two goal deficit to defeat the Syracuse Stars B team 5-4. Goals by Corey Drozdz and Sam Lane gave the Stars a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. The Dogs started their comeback by tallying two goals from Randy Ciciola and Dan Griffiths to tie the game at 2-2. Drozdz's second goal of the game on the power play with just three seconds left in the period gave the Stars a 3-2 lead going into the first intermission. Brewster took the lead for good scoring the only goals in the second period from Chris Doyle and Matt McCloskey to take a 4-3 lead. They increased their lead to 5-3 as Ray Potestio scored at the 41 second mark of the third period. Devin Coon's power play goal with just :57 remaining in the game for the Stars wasn't enough as the Stars fell to the Bulldogs and saw their 5 game winning streak come to an end.

 

Stars (A) and Breakers Battle To Ties

 


The Syracuse Stars A team and Bay State Breakers both played a hard fought game Saturday that resulted in a 6-6 overtime tie. Rob Morton opened the scoring of the game to give the Stars the early lead. Late in the period the Breakers scored on a goal from Anton Kuznetsov. Syracuse regained the lead with just under two minutes remaining in the period on a goal from Mike Montagna to give the Stars a 2-1 lead going into the intermission. The second period was a high scoring period as a total of 7 goals were scored between the teams. Montagna opened the second period with his second goal of the game to give the Stars a 2 goal lead. Bay State then battled back on goals from Wes Bonnell and Josh Harris in a manner of :31 seconds to tie the game at 3-3. The Stars then regained their two goal lead on goals from Josh LaRose and Morton's second goal. Bay State then battled back again on a goal from Kuznetsov to make it 5-4. The Stars regained their 2 goal lead on a goal from Jeremy Schaffel with just :39 seconds left in the second period. The third period was all the Breakers as they scored the only goals of the period from Anthony Principato and Mike Crowder to force the game into overtime.

On Sunday the Syracuse Stars A team and the Bay State Breakers for the second consecutive day battled to a 4-4 overtime tie. Bay State jumped out to the early lead with goals from Kyle Weiland and Anton Kuznetsov to go up 2-0. Rob Morton scored with just over two minutes remaining in the first to go into the first intermission down 2-1. Each team tallied a goal in the second with the Stars goal coming from Ryan Farnan; but the Breakers still lead 3-2 after two. In the third period the Stars tied the game at 3-3 within the first three minutes on a goal from Adam Graff. Bay State regained the lead thirty-two seconds later on Anthony Olson's goal. The Stars continued to put pressure on Eric Ferber, the Bay State goaltender until Chris Cannizzaro put one past Ferber to tie the game at 4-4 with just under nine minutes remaining to force both teams into another overtime game.  
Both the Stars A and B teams will be home again this weekend to take on the Green Mountain Glades A and B teams.
